Biography

Sara Culler’s eye catches everything from the less obvious beauty of contemporary and abstract cityscapes, architectural details, rural American scenery, and the varied, vast, yet minimal landscapes of The United States.

Her work has won her two scholarships. For her photography, The New Mexico State Committee National Museum Women In The Arts Scholarship in 2021. During her time in design school, Sara was also granted the LANL Foundation’s Career Pathways Scholarship for the fall and spring semesters of 2022/2023 based on her academic achievements and career goals. On the topic of academic achievements, Sara has been rewarded the Dean’s List for achieving a 4.0 GPA all of her 9+ credit semesters during her Media Arts — Graphic Design certificate program. Very hard work that has granted her a lifetime membership in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. During her first semester at the University of New Mexico she was also granted a nomination to the University of New Mexico's chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success.

Her photography has won honorable mention in the International Minimalist Photography Awards based out of Teheran, Iran, two years in a row - 2019 and 2020. It’s also been shown at Portland, Oregon’s Black Box Gallery, curated by Curate Santa Fe, and hung in various places in, and around the Santa Fe, and Albuquerque metroplex’s, with her first big show, “Sara Culler - An Introduction” at Albuquerque’s Spur Line Supply Co. She’s been featured on many Instagram feature sites, and was selected by Minimal Zine as one of the top inspiring women photographers to follow. Her images have also been used for home staging/home sales in Sweden, and four pieces were represented by Democratic Gallery (RIP) once based out of her old Swedish hometown of Malmo, Sweden.

Artist Statement

I am a 45 year old US citizen born in Malmö, Sweden. In my present life, I am a photography and graphic design scholar, residing in Austin, Texas.

I am obsessed with analog and digital design, typography, layout work, print work, herding ants, and working on pixel level. I also make time for tutoring students in Adobe Photoshop for both photographers and designers, Adobe Photoshop’s Camera Raw extension, Adobe Illustrator, print work, typography, and layout. It keeps my skills updated, and also helps me learn how to communicate these topics to other humans. It keeps me learning.

My foundational artistic passion is photography. The foundation on which I’m building my graphic design love. Digitally, I shoot my inherited Canon EOS 7D, my beloved favorite Ricoh GR, and an iPhone 12 Pro. Film cameras include, but are not limited to, various Pentax cameras, and Yashica’s.

In my spare time I love hanging out with my Abby, an Australian Kelpie mix, and Max, a Manx or Japanese Bob Cat, and Neko, the Scottish Fold. I am a music maniac, an avid desert and alpine hiker, a nature obsessed forager, and outdoor fanatic.

This said — I hope you enjoy my work!
